Art has always been my first language, and it's the one I use to describe my affinity for nature and the sensation of being outdoors. I always seek to keep some realism from my original images, through a filter of interpretive gestures and bold application of colour. I strive to convey the energy and my experience of a subject rather than a perfect, photo real version.
I have always leaned towards two dimensional art; preferring drawing and pastel but am versatile with many other mediums such as acrylic paints and watercolour. Though traditionally classic and realist in approach as a self taught artist, I am developing a more expressive, semi-realist style. More recent works demonstrate subtle experimentation and a layering of approaches and materials.
My career path was always going to combine my love of art and environment, and I have been very fortunate to be able to pursue a design career whilst creating art when able. I am a professional Interior Designer and a full member of the Design Institute of Australia and thoroughly enjoy dividing my time between Design and Art. Technical drawings by day, expressive drawing in the evenings.
I have been an active member of the Diamond Valley Arts Society since 2009, regularly exhibiting in group events and regularly collecting awards and commendations.
Giulianna has always been a resident of Banyule in Melbourne. She works from her own professional art and design studio in Watsonia and lives locally with her young family.
