Background

I studied art at Southampton Art College in England before moving to New Zealand in 1975. After a long distraction in journalism and other things I took up painting (and printmaking) again in the mid-2000s, and have since exhibited extensively throughout New Zealand and more recently in Australia.

My style sits between abstraction and figuration, evoking forms of landscape, which is my main inspiration. Key influences include Richard Diebenkorn, Nicolas de Stael and Helen Frankenthaler.

Over recent years my work has been mostly in mixed media, often combining painting with printmaking techniques such as monotype and drypoint. I moved to Sydney in November 2015 and to Illawarra in 2018, where I paint from my home studio.
