SIAN LIM

I am an artist based in Wangaratta in NE Victoria. I completed Printmaking, Drawing & Painting at the Goulburn Ovens TAFE in 2012. Art classes and workshops with various renowned artists over the last 10 years, and Art Study Tours to Morocco and Italy and ‘Artist in Italy’ workshop in Chiusi, have all greatly influenced and enriched my work.

I draw my inspirations and ideas from the world around me: Nature, landscape, still life and buildings. My art is a response to and an expression and interpretation of these images. I draw and paint with expressive strokes and lines mainly in acrylics, pastels, pens and inks, and working spontaneously with layers of colours, shapes, forms and textures, in a contemporary and impressionist style. My current works and commissions focus on the beauty, colours and compositions of flowers and fruits, specialising in custom bouquet paintings. I find it exciting and rewarding creating artworks that evoke emotional responses and memories from the viewers.

I have exhibited in Group Exhibitions at the Wangaratta Art Gallery, Gigs Gallery Wodonga, Bainz Gallery Wangaratta, Wangaratta Private Hospital, Wangaratta Tourist Information Centre, Shades of Art and held a Solo Exhibition at the Wangaratta Cardiology & Respiratory Centre (2015) and was invited to exhibit with selected artists at the 2014 ‘Jazz & Blues Interpreted’ Exhibition, Wangaratta Art Gallery. I am currently represented by Wrenwood Gallery, Bungowannah, NSW.

I have sold privately and on commissions and have participated and sold my works in local and Melbourne art shows. I was awarded the main prizes in the 2011 Wangaratta Jazz Art Award, the 2014 St Bernard’s Primary School Wangaratta Art Prize, the 2016 Small Space Award, Trinity Anglican College Art Exhibition & Acquisitive Award, Thurgoona, NSW, the 2016 Emerging or Passionate Amateur Artist Award and the 2017 People’s Choice Award, Paint Presto Exhibition, Wangaratta, and was Highly Commended at the 2016 ‘Feast of Art’ Art Show, Milawa VIC, the 2017 King Valley Art Show VIC and the 2018 St Bernard’s Primary School Art Show VIC.
