Brighton Beach Holiday by Maggie Deall

Features

ARTIST NOTES: Brighton Beach Holiday is an acrylic piece on gallery wrapped canvas. It is ready to hang and is a bold statement piece that will bring Brighton Beach into your home. It is 91 x 152cm. On Brighton Beach sits 82 distinctive bathing boxes, a row of wooden structures lining the foreshore at Brighton Beach. Built well over a century ago in response to very Victorian ideas of morality and seaside bathing, the bathing boxes remain almost unchanged. All retain classic Victorian architectural features with timber framing, weatherboards and corrugated iron roofs, though they also bear the hallmarks of individual licencees' artistic and colourful embellishments. Thanks to these distinctive decorations, the boxes turn the Brighton seaside into an immediately recognisable, iconic beachscape that can transform by the hour according to season, light and colour.

ARTIST BIO

I am a Riverina based artist who works primarily in acrylics. I am inspired by the texture and colour in nature and aim to make people look closer at the details and engage with the subject. My art makes me feel like I am touching nature and showing the world images through my eyes. I am very eclectic in my choice of subject matter and tend to move fluidly between my interests although I am alwas drawn to images on a larger scale that make vibrat stattements.

I have been away from art for many years and feel like my eyes have opened again in the last 12 months. I am drawn to my studio especially in the morning when its floodlit with perfect sunlight and tend to lose myself for hours. There is nothing so exciting to me as a blank canvas and being surrounded by pots of colour and potential, the freedom I find in my art gives me joy. These days I see shapes and patterns in everything and am obsessed with the play of light on everyday objects around me.I want to inspire people to look closer at the beauty in sometimes unusual places.
