Beauty Of The Broken by Leona Tai

ARTIST NOTES: 'Beauty of the Broken.'

I chose to paint this beautiful butterfly as a symbol, not just of myself, but of all of us. A part of me used to believe that my brokenness and imperfections were deep flaws that held me back and disabled me from being beautiful. I am starting to learn that our wounds can actually help heal those around us and make the world more colourful and wonderful. The metaphorical blood dripping from the butterfly's wings appears to be painful, but the butterfly's damage leads to the deep red colour of the dahlia petals on which it is sitting. The broken butterfly makes the flower even more beautiful than before.
